Black Tie, Adjacent
A suit jacket, wool trousers and a grenadine tie — formal without a tuxedo.
From After DarkStyling notes
Not every dress code that says formal means a dinner suit. Charcoal over black with a closed-lacing oxford reads correctly in almost every room that would have accepted one.
Grenadine has texture instead of a pattern, which is why it is the one tie that never fights the jacket it is under.
Why it works
- Charcoal and black are close enough to read as intentional rather than mismatched.
- The oxford collar is stiff enough to hold a tie knot upright all evening.
- Bottle green is the only colour in the outfit, and it is at eye level.
Swap it
Lose the tie and this is dinner rather than a dress code.
